Panthers, Johnson and Johnson reach Over-30 A final
The Panthers advanced to face Johnson and Johnson in Kingston Recreation League men’s Over-30 Basketball A Division finals.
The Panthers beat Clegg’s 57-53 in overtime and Johnson and Johnson rolled over Team Skullyz 56-39 in the semis.
Clegg’s had built a 24-18 lead at the half, but the Panthers rallied in the second half to force overtime.
Turk Curnell scored 19 points, Brian Muse had 13 and Qoun Bellamy added 12 to lead the Panthers.
Todd VanVorhees scored 21 points and Khalid Alexander added nine to pace Clegg’s.
Johnson and Johnson got off to a 28-20 lead over Team Skullyz at the half and they continued that momentum in the second as they cruised to the easy victory.
Charles Jansen scored 28 points, draining six three’s, and Antonio Williams added 17 to power Johnson and Johnson.
Lennard Byrd scored 11 and Bubb Bryant added 8 to carry Skullys.
James scored 19 points and Phil Beechel added 17 to lead Mainetti, Mainetti & O’Connor past Peet’s Coffee 53-45 in a B Division contest.
Eddied Mallette scored 17 points and Archie Corneh added 11 for Peet’s who trailed 22-18 at the half and couldn’t find the upper edge in the second half.
