School announces 2018 valedictorian, salutatorian
GERMANTOWN, N.Y. » Wyatt Rhys Gibbons and Emma Marie Leifer have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the Germantown Central School Class of 2018.
Gibbons, son of James and Heather Gibbons of Elizaville, is a member of the school’s National Honor Society chapter, soccer and basketball teams, and concert and jazz bands.
He is the recipient of the Rochester Institute of Technology Innovation & Creativity Award, the Clarkson University Leadership and Achievement Award and the Rensselaer Medal Award.
Gibbons also is a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, the Southern Columbia County Soccer League and the First Baptist Church Youth Soccer and Basketball Camp.
He has been accepted to SUNY Binghamton and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and he plans to study physics.
Leifer, daughter of Eric and Dorothee Leifer of Livingston, is the senior class president at Germantown and is a member of the National Honor Society.
She is the recipient of the Cornell Award Gillert Cornell Admission Invitation, the Rensselaer Medal Award, the Rochester Institute of Technology Computing Medal, the Elmira College Key Award and the Outstanding 4-H Member Award.
Leifer also is a 4-H Club vice president.
She plans to take a year off before college to participate in the World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms program.
