Ruth I. Manning, 90, of The Villages, Fla.
Ruth I. Manning unexpectedly passed away on Jan. 12, 2018, in The Villages, Fla., just one week following her 90th birthday. In her final weeks, she enjoyed spending time with family over Christmas and New Year’s celebrations, many happy hours, and a large family birthday party honoring her 90 years of life. These days will always be cherished.
Ruth was born to parents George A. and Leta Ruth Britt, in Collinsville, Ill., where she was also raised. Ruth was the youngest of four sisters; Evelyn M. Meni, Frances Kirkpatrick, and Stella Van Hook all predeceased her. She spent most of her life in Sawkill, N.Y., Tucson, Ariz., and The Villages, Fla. She was the wife of the late Charles D. Manning.
Ruth is survived by and will be dearly missed by four of five surviving children from her first marriage to the late Maurice (Vic) Reedy: Steven Reedy and his wife Bernie of Warren, N.J.; Jo Ann Reuben and her husband Marc N. Reuben of Tillson, N.Y.; James Reedy of Scotch Plains, N.J.; and Ronald Reedy and his wife Terry Sanabria of Ridgewood, N.J. Ruth was predeceased by her son, Douglas, who is survived by his wife Susan Reedy of Phillipsburg, N.J. Ruth is also survived by nieces and nephews, Jan Joseph of Collinsville, Ill., Billie Jean Simpson of Edwardsville, Ill., Susan Meadows of Collinsville, Ill., Alan Kirkpatrick and Robert Kirkpatrick of Baton Rouge, La.; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Rachel Reuben of New Paltz, N.Y., Jeremy Reuben, his wife Kathleen and their daughters Makenna and Brielle of Hurley, N.Y., Samantha Reedy of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Cassandra and Luca Reedy of Phillipsburg, N.J.
Ruth enjoyed traveling with her late husband, Charles, especially visiting Bali, Vancouver, Amsterdam, and Mexico; playing card games with friends and family; and gardening in a variety of climes.
A celebration of life service will be held at noon Saturday, April 21, 2018, with family and friends gathering at 11:30 a.m. at Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., in Kingston, N.Y. (www.jvleahyfh.com) A reception for family and friends will follow at Christina’s Restaurant in Kingston, N.Y. She was previously interred in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla., next to her husband, Charles.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth’s memory to the American Legion or American Diabetes Association.
