Goshen nips Wallkill for non-league win

With the bases loaded and a 3-2 count in the bottom of the fifth, Goshen High’s Ryan Garton came in and got a strikeout to shut down Wallkill en route to a 2-1 Gladiator victory in a non-league baseball game Friday.

Garton added two more strikeouts across 2 1/3 innings, while Rob Hensey got the win, striking out nine and allowing two hits and one earned run over 4 2/3 innings.

Chris DeMatteo tripled, doubled and drove in two runs and Ryan Garton hit two singles to lead the Gladiators, who scored both of their runs in the first inning.

Andrew Strobach was tagged with the loss, striking out two while allowing six hits and two runs in four innings

Dan Hopper scored the Panthers’ only run on a leadoff homer in the third, while Ian Devany added a triple for (0-4) Wallkill. Highland 12, Monroe 2

At Highland, the Crusaders sprayed 16 hits as they dominated the Huskies

Matt Bernard got the win, while Matt Olsen had three singles and three RBI to lead Monroe

Kevin Brennie hit two singles, and Dylan Warren added a RBI to pace the Huskies. Liberty 15, Ellenville 3

At Ellenville, 12 walks and eight errors helped sink the Devils despite them out hitting the Indians.

Jeremy Lieberman got the win, scattering five strikeouts while allowing five hits across five innings.

Lieberman also knocked in two runs and Carter Harmon hit a double and had two RBI to lead (1-3) Liberty.

Jon McCombs scored two runs and Justin Guiliano had a RBI. Pine Plains 6, Rondout 2

At Pine Plains, Matt Funk scattered six hits in a complete-game effort to lead the (2-0 MHAL, 3-1 overall) Bombers.

Funk struck out nine and didn’t allow an earned run, while Ethan Generelli helped spark the offense, scoring three runs and stealing two bases.

Other hits came from Adam Funk (stolen base, run scored), Derek Koch, Calab McCaul (two stolen bases, RBI), Evan Proper (RBI, stolen base), Aiden Kiernan (run scored) and Kane Kozlowski.

Losing pitcher Hayden Mutz allowed five runs (two earned) over five innings and had a hit for the Ganders.

AJ Parete had a pair of hits and a run scored, with Dallas Romaguera (run scored), Austin Wells and Jared Countryman adding a hit each.
