Kingston High tops North Rockland in slugfest
Kingston High improved to 3-1 on the season with a wild 1612 win over North Rockland in non-league play.
Kingston High’s young baseball team has a 3-1 record after its first week, capping it with a wild 16-12 nonleague triumph over North Rockland at Gruner Field.
The Tigers got big offensive performances from Ryan Nace (double, four RBI), Jake McNutt (homer, three RBI, three runs scored), Joe Ferrer (two singles, double, three RBI) and Fritz Genther (three doubles, two RBI, three runs scored).
North Rockland grabbed an early 7-0 advantage, but Kingston countered with a nine-run, twoout rally in the second inning.
Consecutive walks and an error
opened the door, then the Tigers delivered five consecutive hits. Nace’s tworun double put Kingston ahead 9-7.
The game was tied 1010 when the Tigers pulled ahead again with four runs in the fifth. Thomas Restivo’s single and a hit-andrun base hit started that rally.
McNutt’s two-run homer in the sixth made it a 1610 contest. North Rockland rallied for two runs in the seventh, but couldn’t draw closer.
Jimmy Moot got the win in relief.
Kingston resumes Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association Division I play on the road Monday with the first of a three-game series with Pine Bush.
