School board races take shape in area districts
Area school districts have released the names of candidates seeking Board of Education seats in the May 15 election.
Here’s a look at who will be on the ballots.
Ellenville
Five candidates are seeking three three-year seats. They are incumbents Iris Friedman and Wayne Storey, and Migdalia Negron-Carpenter, Lisa Ramirez and Cassie Spoor.
Current board member Maxine Chapin is not seeking re-election.
Voting will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the high school.
Highland
Running unopposed for three three-year seats will be incumbents Michael Bakatsias and Edward Meisel, and Camille Adomce.
Current board member Debbie Pagno did not file a petition to seek reelection.
Voting will be from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the high school.
Kingston
Candidate petitions are not due until April 23.
New Paltz
Vying for three threeyear seats are incumbents Brian Cournoyer and Michael O’Donnell, and Meghan Goodnow, Joe Garcia, Diana Armstead and Glenn LaPolt.
Current board member Alison Easton is not seeking re-election.
Voting will be from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the high school .
Onteora
Seeking two three-year seats are incumbents Valerie Storey and Robert Kurnit, and Leo Warren.
Voting will be from 2 to 9 p.m. in the three elementary schools and the West Hurley Fire Station.
Red Hook
Running for a single
three-year term will be Dean Button, Lauren Arcomano, Daniel J. Rinaldi and Kate Kortbus.
The seat currently is held by Ed Mercier, who did not file a petition to seek reelection.
Voting will be from noon to 9 p.m. in Mill Road Elementary School.
Rhinebeck
Running for two threeyear seats are incumbents Diane Lyons and Mark Fleischhauer, and David Lavallee.
Voting will be from 2 to 9 p.m. in the high school.
Rondout Valley
Vying for three threeyear seats and two oneyear seats are incumbents Gail Hutchins, Nicole Parete and Rebecca Versace, and Natalysse Stein, Stephanie Diak-Salmonsen, Brian Martin, Kimberly Cohen, Elissa Jury, David Bendell, and Gerald
Fornino.
Current board members Wayne Beckerman and Michael Baden are not seeking re-election.
Voting will be from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the high school.
Saugerties
Running unopposed for three three-year seats will be incumbents Robert Thomann, James Mooney and Raymond Maclary.
Voting will be from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the four elementary schools.
