George Francis ‘Bud’ McArdle, 91, of Kingston

KINGSTON » George Francis “Bud” McArdle, of Sawkill Road, died peacefully Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born Feb. 2, 1927, in Kingston, he was the son of the late George F. and Mary T. (Leippert) McArdle.

A graduate of Kingston High School and attendee of Albany Business College and Ulster County Community College, George served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. George retired as a senior buyer in the Purchasing Department at the IBMKingsto­n plant, managing the Reservatio­ns Department. He was vice president and member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. After retirement from IBM, he worked for 28 years in the Ulster County Court System as a court attendant.

Active in civil affairs, he was a past member of the Kingston City Common Council and chairman of the Traffic Control Committee, where he was instrument­al in the installati­on of the existing “One Way system” in Uptown Kingston. In addition to the IBM Quarter Century Club, Bud held offices as past president of the Twaalfskil­l Hose Co. and co-chairman of the House Committee at Twaalfskil­l Golf Club, where he was a member. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, with whom he was named Mayor of the Day.

Bud managed and coached baseball in the Jaycee League, Babe Ruth League, and Senior League. He played in the City League and was inducted into the local Baseball Hall of Fame in 1993.

Surviving are his wife Mary Jane (McSpirit) McArdle; daughter, Tammy Van Wagenen and her husband Raymond; son, Timothy McArdle; five grandchild­ren, Coleman, Max, Magdalyn Van Wagenen and Grace and Gavin McArdle; two sisters, Julia Letus and her husband and Bud’s best friend, George Letus, and Delores Witkowski. He was “Uncle Bud” to his many nieces and nephews.

Six sisters, Mary Abrosino, Rita Petramale, Eileen Hendricks, Dorothy Sass and Agnes Cermak and Elizabeth “Betty” Jordan died previously.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the guidance of Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston (www.jvleahyfh.com). Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral procession will form Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, Kingston. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Expression­s of sympathy in lieu of flowers may be made in the form of contributi­ons to the Cancer Assistance for Parents (CAPS) Fund, 30 Grand St., Kingston, N.Y. 12401.
