Kingston rallies to top Valley Central
Tigers overcome early deficit to defeat Valley Central in Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association action
Kingston High’s softball team won its third game in a row Wednesday, scoring nine late runs to pull out a 9-4 Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association victory over Valley Central.
Jessica Chilcott drove in four runs with a pair of extra-base hits, and Shannon Bonewit had three hits and three RBI. She also pitched a complete-game six-hitter, striking out two, to lead the (5-1) Tigers.
Valley Central grabbed a 2-0 advantage in the first inning and pitcher Josephine Feeney kept getting key fly ball outs to keep Kingston at bay for the first four innings.
“We’ve seen a lot of teams and a different variety of pitchers,” Kingston coach Trishann Hayes noted. “It’s hard to tell a group of girls to be patient. She had us off-balance.”
The Tigers finally broke through, scoring five runs in the fifth. Hailee Binney reached on an error and Sydney Bonewit singled to set the stage. After Alyssa Finno bunted them over, Kingston finally got the key hits — Shannon Bonewit’s tworun double followed by Chilcott’s two-run homer.
The Tigers added four more runs in the sixth, keyed by Shannon Bonewit’s RBI single and a tworun double from Chilcott.
Shannon Bonewit finished with two singles and the double. Sydney Bonewit singled, drew two walks and scored twice, Alyssa Villielm had three singles and two RBI and Lauren Shambo had a pair of singles for the Tigers.
Skye Brewer hit a two-run homer and Gabby Teutel smacked a two-run triple for Valley Central’s scoring.
