KINGSTON » Melvin D. Kithcart, 76, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2018, at Ten Broeck Commons.

Melvin was born July 6, 1941 in Glasco, N.Y., to George Sr. and Esther J. Kithcart.

Melvin was one of eight sons and four daughters.

Melvin was predecease­d by his son, Spencer; sisters, Naomi Strong and Estelle Knox; and brothers, Mason, Marshall, and Gene A.

Melvin is survived by his daughter, Cassandra Kithcart and granddaugh­ter Kalonei Brown of Philadelph­ia, Pa.; sisters, Dorothy M. Brodhead of Kingston, Dolores Mewborn (Edward) of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and brothers, George Jr. (Jennie), James (Eddie), Larry E. and Wilmon (Melrose), all of Kingston.

Melvin worked briefly for Depola Mushrooms, Island Dock, and then Miller Brewing Company in Fulton, N.Y., for 30 years. Mel enjoyed fishing, boating, and music. Sam Cook was his favorite. Funeral and cremation arrangemen­ts are under the guidance of Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston (www.jvleahyfh.com). Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday, April 21, 2018, from 3 to 5 p.m. A funeral service will begin at 5 p.m., the Rev. Dr. Faye Banks-Taylor of St. Mark’s AME Church officiatin­g. Inurnment will be in Montrepose Cemetery at the convenienc­e of the family.
