Kingston defeated twice by Pine Bush
Kingston High absorbed a tough doubleheader loss to Pine Bush in Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association baseball action Wednesday night.
The Bushmen took the first game 4-3, rallying for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Logan DeVries tied it on a two-run single and Franklin Mundo’s one-out RBI single won it.
Sloppy Kingston defense led to Pine Bush taking an early 6-0 lead and rolling to a 9-3 victory in the nightcap.
Fritz Genther singled and scored twice and Jake McNutt had a RBI in the first game for the Tigers. Christian Ott allowed a run on three hits, but got a no decision. Garrett Warnecke took the loss in relief.
Chris Deckaj handcuffed Kingston on four hits over six innings to win the second game. Matt Dubois delivered two hits, including a homer, John Guttridge singled twice and Devin Moore drove in two runs for Pine Bush.
Ott had a pair of singles and McNutt a double for Kingston,
which had seven errors in the game.
Kingston coach Mike Groppuso said he had seen the wrong kind of consistency
in his team.
“We have consistently struggled early this year with finishing games when it matters most,” he said. “Our pitching has struggled on a consistent basis with commanding the strike zone as well as compounding it by making costly errors.
“Defensively we’ve been very inconsistent, which has produced many unearned runs as well as increasing our pitchers’ pitch count where we are thin to begin with,” he added. ““We wiil need to continue to make practices
productive but, more importantly, learn the game mentally. It all comes with experience and learning to apply it.”
Kingston, now 3-3 overall, completes its threegame OCIAA Division I series with Pine Bush on the road Friday.
