Margaret M. Simmons, 82, of Craryville

RED HOOK » Margaret M. Simmons, 82, of Craryville and a longtime Red Hook resident, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018, at Health-Alliance Hospital, Broadway Campus, in Kingston, N.Y.

Born on July 7, 1935, in Rhinebeck, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Mabel (Mackensie) Feller Sr. Margaret married Arden R. Simmons Sr. in 1964 in Rhinebeck, N.Y., and he predeceased her on Feb. 20, 2014.

For many years, and until her retirement, Margaret worked in housekeeping at the Hudson River Psychiatric Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Margaret’s greatest loves were her husband and her cat “Pooh,” Genesee beer and casinos. She went to complete her GED at age 70 and wrote her own autobiography in 2007, “Common Law.”

She is survived by her loving family, including her children, Timothy Feller of Massachusetts, Debra (Donald) Dann Coons of Craryville, N.Y., Dennis (Mary) Cohen of Red Hook, N.Y., Arden (Sherry) R. Simmons Jr. of Red Hook, N.Y., and Rebecca (Howard) Coons of Red Hook, N.Y.; her brothers, Dennis Feller of Germantown, N.Y., and Louis Feller of Florida; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; along with countless extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Lawrence Cohen; and her siblings, Donald, Floyd, Milton, and Melvin Feller, Annabelle Whitmore, Katherine Coons, and Elizabeth Choinsky.

Mom leaves her endless sense of humor. She requested “always to live one more day and keep smiling, because every day is a good day.”

Friends may call at Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, from noon to 2 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. and interment will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.
