Saugerties nets big divisional win

Saugerties High scored a big Mid-Hudson Athletic League Division I baseball win over Roosevelt Monday, defeating the Presidents 102.

The Sawyers improved to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the MHAL.

“To get to a 5-1 division record which hasn’t happened here in at least ten years is a testament to our players,” Saugerties coach Michael Pugliese said. “Drew Reynolds pitched like an ace with a lead, the top of the order stayed hot and we got some production from the bottom of the order. A great team win, great program win and we need to be ready for this to springboar­d use into play with (MHAL) Division 2 and sectionals.”

Reynolds worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning. Saugerties responded in the bottom of the frame with two runs off a Randy Dodig walk, Evan Normann’s RBI triple and Ty Gallagher’s run-scoring single. Kieran Defino’s big two-run double broke the game open in the fourth.

Normann, Gallagher and Dodig each finished with two hits and two RBI,

Reynolds went six innings, striking out five and allowing no earned runs on four hits for the win.

Conner Harris had a pair of hits for (3-2, 5-2) Roosevelt. Onteora 11, Dover 4

At Boiceville, Anthony Umhey drove in three runs with two singles and a double, Elie Kuhne had a pair of hits and Zach Chartrand had two singles and a RBI to pace Onteora. Steven Croswell got the win. Spackenkil­l 10, Ellenville 0

At Ellenville, Josh Koller tossed a five-inning twohitter with five strikeouts in a mercy-rule win for (40, 4-3) Spackenkil­l. Conner Lee tripled in two runs and Damien Sherilla hit three sacrifice flies to lead the Spartans, who pulled away with a seven-run third.

Joe McCombs and Jason Lonstein each had hits for (1-2, 3-3) Ellenville. Highland 18 Rondout 7

At Kyserike, Dario Divalentin­o went 4 for 5 with two doubles and 4 RBI to pace the Huskies.

Kevin Brennie was 2 for 5 with 4 RBI, while winning pitcher Ethan Thomson went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Dylan Warren added a pair of hits and 2 RBI in the win.

Dallas Romageura went 3 for 4 in the loss for the Ganders. Wallkill 9, Red Hook 4

At Red Hook, the Panthers scored four runs in the top of the seventh to break open a 5-4 contest and put the game out of reach.

Brad Betcher had three doubles and three RBI in the win, while Cole Popowick (double) scored a pair of runs. Ken Dederick drove in a run with a hit in the seventh to help Anthony Scarano record the win.

James Flood had two hits and two RBI for the Raiders, while losing pitcher Zack Schott and Lance Neese had a single and an RBI each.
