Katherine ‘Kay’ Meddaugh Brinnier, of Hurley

HURLEY » Katherine “Kay” Meddaugh Brinnier, of Dug Hill Road, died at home in the company of family on Sunday, April 22, 2018.

Born in Bridgeport, Conn., the daughter of the late Allerton F. and Edna Bailey Meddaugh, Kay graduated from New Milford H.S., and received her bachelor’s degree from Rhode Island College and her master’s degree in Education from SUNY New Paltz. She was a teacher in the Kingston Consolidat­ed School System for 25 years. She had been a active member of The Junior League and a longtime volunteer at the Emergency Room desk at Kingston Hospital. In December of 1949, she married John V.E. Brinnier in New Milford, Conn. Kay enjoyed raising her sons at her treasured home on the Dug Hill Road. She traveled extensivel­y with John and especially enjoyed the ocean on Cape Cod and at Florida. Profession­ally and personally, she had a lifelong love of learning. Throughout her life she maintained strong bonds with close friends and extended family.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, William P. (Shelley Wyant) Brinnier of Marbletown, John F. “Jack” (Sharon) Brinnier of Woodbury, Conn.; her grandchild­ren, Tara (Chad) Ehrenkranz of Miami, Fla.; Corinner (Nate) Brassfield of Columbia, Md., Justin Brinnier of Nyack, Jonathan Brinnier and his fiancée Samantha Browning of West Hartford, Conn.; special grandchild­ren, Megan (Anthony) Mazzeo of Osterville, Mass., Jason (Annie) Maguire of Sandwich, Mass.; and dear friends, Sean and Gail Maguire of Centervill­e, Mass. Six great-grandchild­ren, Trevor, Owen, Eva, Zachary, Isabel and Cameron; a niece, nephews, and cousins also survive her.

She was predecease­d by two sons, David L. Brinnier (1953-1977) and Mark C. Brinnier (1960-1987).

Entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston.

Cremation and inurnment in Wiltwyck Cemetery are private.
