Molly Van Der Poel of Kingston, a student at the State University of New York at Oneonta, was among a group of students from the college who traveled to New Orleans to attend the American Marketing Associatio­n’s 40th Annual Internatio­nal Collegiate Conference.

Van Der Poel is a member of SUNY OnMark, SUNY Oneonta’s chapter of the American Marketing Associatio­n. The club was awarded seventh place in the “Chapter of the Year” competitio­n out of about 400 colleges and universiti­es.

SUNY OnMark also received an honorable mention for the excellence of its website, and several members were chosen to speak about their quality in membership recruitmen­t.

Van Der Poel is majoring in profession­al accounting.

••• Michael A. Valleau of Wallkill, a student at Clarkson University in Potsdam, received the Commendabl­e Service Award.

A limited number of Commendabl­e Service Awards are presented annually to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students, faculty, staff and administra­tion members who have demonstrat­ed quality in service to their area/organizati­on. The award candidate should be a well-rounded individual who excels in all aspects of college life and is especially dedicated to serving his or her organizati­on.

Valleau is majoring in mechanical engineerin­g.

••• Three area residents at Nichols College in Dudley, Mass. — Thomas Horner of Lake Katrine, Angel McHugh of Wingdale and Emily Barden of Chatham — were among senior student honored at an awards ceremony on April 17.

Each received honors scholar certificat­es. Horner also received level 3 certificat­ion as an academic tutor. Barden was the recipient of an Entreprene­urship Award.

••• Bethann Zeman of Kingston, a student at the University of Findlay in Ohio, participat­ed in the university’s Symposium for Scholarshi­p and Creativity.

Zeman’s presentati­on was titled “A Physical Approach to Reduce the Incidence of Cesarean Sections.”

The symposium gave undergradu­ate and graduate students the opportunit­y to share their research, creativity and profession­al learning experience­s with the university and community.

••• Jenna Cerulli of Red Hook was named to the dean’s list at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I., for the fall semester.

Students earn dean’s list status by achieving a grade point average of 3.4 or higher.

She is a member of the Class of 2018.
