Kingston High scored in every inning, with every player in the lineup collecting at least one hit and scoring at least one run, en route to a 16-6 nonleague baseball victory over John Jay-East Fishkill at Gruner Field.

The game was stopped in the bottom of the sixth inning by the mercy rule.

“It was by far our best offensive outing with respect to situational hitting and having quality at bats,” Kingston coach Mike Groppuso said. “We have worked very hard this year in preparing ourselves in understanding the situation at hand and executing what is needed.

“It all came together in one game, which is rare but rewarding.”

Thomas Restivo had three hits, to go with three RBI and three runs scored, to lead the Tigers’ offense. Jon Kivlan drove in three runs, with Fritz Genther, Josh McNutt, Christian Ott, Garrett Warnecke, Joe Ferrer and Brady Short all adding multiple hits.

Kingston, which improved to 8-5, led 5-0 after two innings before John Jay scored four unearned runs to close the gap to 5-4. The Tigers, however, responded with four runs in their half of the third to regain control.

“Every time they scored we answered right back,” Groppuso noted.

Restivo keyed the third with a bases-loaded, two-run single.

Kingston also scored on an error and a Kivlan sacrifice fly in the frame. Kivlan hit two sacrifices on the night.

After scoring four runs

in the fourth and one in the fifth, the game ended in the sixth on Ferrer’s tworun double, helping Steven Freer pick up the win. Freer improved to 2-0, scattering four hits over five innings.

“I thought Steven had another solid outing,”

Groppuso said, noting the Tigers’ third inning defensive struggles. “After a 1-out walk and single, we had 2 opportunities to turn (double plays), booted both of them and added a throwing error from the (outfield) that allowed three runs to score.

“To get out of that come back and put up zeroes the next two innings was impressive”

Tommy DiRusso had three hits, including a double, while Shawn Baker took the loss for John Jay.

The Tigers resume Orange County Interscholastic

Athletic Association play this week, hosting Monroe-Woodbury on Monday at Gruner. They travel to Central Valley to play the Crusaders on Tuesday before hosting Monroe in the finale of the threegame series on Thursday.
