Officers who shot suspect in robberies identified
Vermont authorities on Sunday released the names of four officers involved in the shooting of an unarmed robbery suspect from Texas.
Mark Triolo, 46, of Lewisville, Texas, was shot Friday night in Brattleboro, shortly after authorities say he committed robberies in Weathersfield and Westminster. State police identified the officers involved as State Trooper Jason Lengfellner, Brattleboro Sgt. Chase Stanley and Brattleboro Officers Michael Cable and Sean Wilson. All have been placed on leave pending an investigation.
Warrants for Triolo’s arrest had been issued in Texas for parole violation and in New York, where he is accused of committing an armed robbery in Queensbury on April 30. In Vermont, he also is suspected of a robbing a market in Vergennes on Tuesday. After the robbery in Westminster on Friday evening, a Brattleboro officer spotted the suspect’s car at a gas station. It took off as officers approached, and was later found parked in a driveway.
State police say Triolo was found in nearby woods and did not respond to being told to stop and show his hands. Officers fired multiple rounds, striking Triolo in the legs and torso. He remains hospitalized.
Police later determined that he was not carrying a gun at the time. They found an unloaded pellet gun that resembled a semi-automatic handgun in the car.
