Girl, 13, wielded knife at officers, police say
The incident happened during an investigation into an 11-year-old being stabbed in the arm.
Police drew their guns and arrested two teenage girls following an incident during which one of the girls allegedly threatened officers with a knife after an 11-year-old girl was stabbed in the arm, the police department said Monday.
About 8:45 p.m. Saturday, city of Newburgh police were called to the area of 108 Kenny Court for a reported stabbing. When officers arrived, they found an 11-year-old girl who had been stabbed in her left arm, police said. The also said a “large crowd of juvenile females” had gathered.
The injured girl, who police did not identify, was taken to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh for treatment of her injury.
While officers were investigating the stabbing, a 13-year-old female charged at them swinging a large kitchen knife, police said. Officers drew their guns and ordered the girl to drop the knife, but she continued to swing at officers until she was tackled from behind and arrested, police said.
That teen, who police also did not identify, was charged with menacing, a misdemeanor, and released to a parent.
Police said another unidentified female, age 14, was charged with misdemeanor assault and released to a parent, and that a third juvenile female wanted in connection with the incident remained at large.
Asked who was thought to be responsible for the stabbing, police said the suspect, a juvenile, was at large.
