A 19-yearold from Poughkeepsie was identified Wednesday as the person who died in a headon collision between a car and school bus on South Quaker Lane in Hyde Park.

Town police said Tondra Lashae Walker’s car, a 2002 Honda Civic, left the road about 8 a.m. Monday and went onto the right shoulder, and that when she tried to bring the vehicle back into the northbound lane, she overcorrected, went into the southbound lane and collided with a Red Hook school district bus driven by James Damico, 63, of Germantown.

Walker was partially ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene, which was near Dana Place.

Walker’s identity was withheld immediately after the collision.

On Monday, Red Hook school district Superintendent Paul Finch said all of the bus’s occupants were checked out at the scene, and that the driver, the bus monitor and two of the three students who were on board were taken to the MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie for evaluation or treatment.

Finch said the monitor suffered minor facial injuries that will require “some follow-up medical care.” The others were treated for “minor bumps and bruises” and released, the superintendent said.

The bus was en route to Dutchess County BOCES on Salt Point Turnpike in Poughkeepsie, Finch said.
