Theodore E. Couris, 90, of San Diego, Calif.

Loving husband, father, grandfathe­r, brother and uncle, Theodore E. Couris, 90, of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Lowell, Mass., died Sunday, April 22, 2018, at Saint Paul’s Villa San Diego, Calif., just four days shy of his 91st birthday. He was the beloved husband of Stella L. (Stamas) Couris, who survives him and with whom he celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversar­y on September 27, 2017.

Born in Peabody, Mass., April 25, 1927, a son of the late Ernest and the late Epstatha (Feidas) Couris, he attended Peabody schools and was a graduate of Peabody High School. He then went to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineerin­g from TriState University in Angola, Indiana, on the World War II GI Bill. A veteran of both World War II, and the Korean Conflict, Mr. Couris proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Before retiring in 1991, he was employed as an Electrical Engineer at IBM in Kingston, New York, for over 30 years. He served as a baseball coach, hockey coach and Scoutmaste­r for Troop 20 in Hurley for many years. He was a founding member of Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Kingston, N.Y., and was chairman of the Building Fund. Among his many interests, Theodore enjoyed golf, building and being outside. In addition to his wife, Stella, Mr. Couris is survived by a son, Michael T. Couris and his wife Erika (Paraskevop­oulos) of La Jolla, Calif.; a granddaugh­ter, Katelyn Couris of La Jolla, Calif.; two grandsons, Theodore Couris of La Jolla, Calif., and Matthew Couris of Hawthorne N.J.; two brothers, George Couris of Peabody, Mass., and John Couris and his wife Ruth of Seekonk, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also brother of the late Demetra (Couris) Kananis and the late Kostadina (Couris) Lopes.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation at O’Donnell Funeral Home, 276 Funeral Home, 276 Pawtucket St., Lowell, Mass., from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, followed by Committal Services at the Westlawn II Cemetery at 3 p.m. E-condolence­s/directions at www.odonnellfu­neralhome.com.
