Pair of Bruins join Czechs at worlds

Boston Bruins right winger David Pastrnak and center David Krejci have agreed to join the Czech Republic at the ice hockey world championsh­ips.

The Czech team announced the move after the Bruins were eliminated from the NHL playoffs in a second-round series loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The offensive duo will no doubt improve the Czech firepower at the tournament in Denmark. The Czechs face next Russia on Thursday.

The 21-year-old Pastrnak had 20 points in 12 playoffs game for six goals and 14 assists after he finished the regular season with 35 goals and 45 assists for 80 points.

Krejci scored three and added seven assists in the playoffs. He had 44 regular season points for 17 goals and 27 assists.

CBS Sports, Navy, extend media deal

CBS Sports, Navy and the American Athletic Conference have agreed to a 10-year contract extension through 2027 that will keep television rights to the Midshipmen’s home football games with the network.

The deal was announced Wednesday. Most Navy home games will be shown on CBS Sports Network, along with some basketball, baseball and lacrosse. The deal is separate from the 10-year deal already in place that gives CBS Sports the media rights to the Army-Navy football game through 2028.

CBS Sports Network is also the home of most Army and Air Force home football games.

The American Athletic Conference has deals with ESPN and CBS separate from Navy’s deal.

Ex-ValleyCats’ help lead Fresno in win

AJ Reed had four hits, while former Tri-City ValleyCats’ Tony Kemp and J.D. Davis recorded three apiece as the Fresno Grizzlies beat the Las Vegas 51s 11-6 on Tuesday.

Reed singled four times, driving in a run and also scoring one. Kemp tripled, doubled and singled, driving in two runs.

Trailing 2-1, Fresno batted around in the second inning, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring six runs, including a two-run single by former ‘Cat Tyler White.

After the teams traded runs, the 51s cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Johnny Monell hit a sacrifice fly and Phillip Evans hit a two-run double.

The Grizzlies later added a run in the sixth and two in the eighth. In the sixth, Davis hit an RBI double, while Kemp hit a two-run double in the eighth.
