Marlboro tops Saugerties in MHAL preview

A lot more will be at stake when Marlboro and Saugerties highs tangle in the Mid-Hudson Athletic League semifinals. The teams met Thursday in a preview, with Marlboro winning 8-2 to close out the regular season.

The Dukes broke it open with a six-run sixth inning and used five pitchers to hold the (12-3) Sawyers to five hits. Mike Paolo went three innings and Christian Diorio got the win.

Austin Casey and Paolo had two hits and an RBI each, Mike Greco singled twice, Will Logue doubled, and Sam Mongelli and Eric Grzechowsk­i each drove in a run for (10-0 MHAL, 12-1 overall) Marlboro.

Saugerties scored twice in the sixth. Ty Gallagher hit a solo home run. Evan Normann had a pair of hits for the Sawyers. Wallkill 6, Red Hook 5

At Wallkill, errors allowed Red Hook to rally, but the Panthers pulled out the non-league victory. Dan Hopper got the win, with Nick Scarano pitching two innings of one-hit scoreless relief, striking out four, to get the save.

Brad Betcher hit a double for (5-11) Wallkill. Noah Stokes had a single, two doubles and two RBI for (012) Red Hook. Ellenville 8, Onteora 5

At Boiceville, Ellenville clinched a postseason berth as it broke a 5-5 tie with a three-run sixth. The game was called by rain in the seventh.

Eddie Owsinski had two hits and three RBI and Justin Guiliano drove in two runs with a pair of singles for the (5-5, 8-6) Devils. Ben Bonitz got the win.

Matt McCormick singled twice and drew a walk to lead Onteora. Rhinebeck 10, Germantown 8

At Annandale, Rhinebeck rallied for six runs in the sixth to beat Germantown in a non-league contest.

Brendan had three RBI on two singles and a double, Strachan Doran had two singles, a triple and two RBI, Sam Ulrich accounted for two runs on a pair of triples and Adam Fitzpatric­k had a pair of singles for (83) Rhinebeck.
