Three-way divisional playoff slated for MHAL

- Freeman staff

Mid-Hudson Athletic League softball is looking at a rare situation after Ellenville and Spackenkill won Thursday, forcing a three-way tie with Dover for the Division III lead.

The situation — created by Ellenville’s 22-1 win over Onteora and Spackenkill’s 12-2 win over Dover — will be settled in a tiebreaking playoff Saturday, weather permitting, at Highland’s Tony Williams Park. The first game is scheduled for 10 a.m.

A coin toss or draw of straws will determine who gets the first-game bye. That team will play the winner of the first game for the division and the right to advance to the MHAL’s semifinals.

Because of the playoff, the MHAL tournament was moved to Monday, with the conference finals at 3:30 p.m. and the league championship at 5:30 p.m. All games are in Highland. Ellenville 22, Onteora 1

At Boiceville, Haley Carpenter hit two doubles and a single, winning pitcher Alyssa Santiago had a single and double and Vanelys Malave singled twice to lead Ellenville. All three players had two RBI each.

Kylie Klein had a single and two stolen bases, Trinity Luther also had a single and a stolen base and Amelia Schlichting singled for (0-11) Onteora. Roosevelt 17, Highland 2

At Hyde Park, Madchen Knauss had a big day for Roosevelt. She tossed a three-hitter with four strikeouts in a mercy-rule shortened five-inning game. She also helped herself at the plate by driving in five runs with two doubles and a single.

Liz Miller hit a two-run homer and a single and Liz Gross drove in three runs with two singles and a double for Roosevelt.

Paige Dauenheimer singled and hit a solo homer for Highland.

The Presidents, now 8-2 in the league and 15-3 overall, plays Marlboro for the MHAL’s American Conference title at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Highland’s Tony Williams Park.
