Highland shuts out Rhinebeck

Jesse Weaver had four goals and an assist, as Highland High shut out Rhinebeck, 16-0, in an Orange County Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n boys lacrosse match on Friday.

Christian Canino had three goals and two assists, while Lenny Casabura made four saves to preserve the shutout for the (4-1 OCIAA, 11-4 overall) Huskies, who led 7-0 after the first quarter and never looked back.

Chris Hammond (three assists), Mike Caso (two assists) and Roger Hegeman (assist) scored two goals each, while Mike Cerniglia and Jack Young added a goal and an assist each in the win. Danny Rusk rounded the scoring with a goal.

Nick Karchmer stopped nine shots in the loss for the Hawks.

Highland travels to play at Rondout Valley on Monday, with seedings for the Section 9, Class C playoffs at stake. Wallkill 13, Washington­ville 4

At Wallkill, Stefon Miller had four goals and an assist to power the (7-7) Panthers.

Alex Lewis had three goals and an assist, while Marc Gagliardi (assist) and Evan Hathaway added three goals each in the win. Bryce Hetherly and Chad Castle rounded the scoring with a goal each, while John LoCicero added three assists. Alec MacDonald and Paul Shea chipped in with an assist each, while Dylan Jowell made seven saves for Wallkill.

Nathaniel Cosentino and Ryan Kennedy had a goal and an assist each to lead the Wizards, while Michael Vecchiarel­lo and Luke Pecovic rounded the scoring with a goal each. Brendan McGrath, meanwhile, stopped nine shots in the loss.
