Carol A. Werner, 75, of Saugerties

-

SAUGERTIES » Carol A. Werner, 75, of Old Canoe Hill Road, passed peacefully Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at her residence, surrounded by family. Born Jan. 16, 1943, in the Bronx, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Linnet Perrin.

Carol was a 1961 graduate of William Howard Taft High School, Bronx, N.Y. That same year, she started dating the love of her life, John G. Werner. They married on Oct. 6, 1962, and spent the next 55 years happily together, even renewing their vows in 2012 at their 50th year wedding anniversary.

Carol was a Saugerties area resident for almost 48 years and a member of the First Congregational Church. She graduated with honors from SUNY Ulster, earning an Associate of Arts degree and receiving many academic achievement awards. She continued her education at SUNY New Paltz, where she graduated with honors, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Carol became employed as a chemist at EnviroTest Laboratories Inc. in Newburgh, where she worked for 20-plus years.

Carol was a bright, beautiful, generous, and kind woman with a fun sense of humor. Her love for family, and friends who became “family” will be what she is most remembered for, however. Known to her grandchildren and great-nieces and nephews as “Nana,” she took such great care in making all holidays special, especially Christmas, earning her the nickname “Tanta Kringle.” Memories of Carol and the traditions she created will live on in her family and with friends whom she touched so dearly.

Survivors include her husband, John Werner; daughter, Catherine and her husband William Godwin of Wallkill; two brothers, Richard (Diane) Perrin of Ocean View, N.J., and Robert (Patricia) Perrin of Wappingers Falls; two grandsons, Jared and Chase Godwin; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Carol’s Service of Remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., 45 John St., Saugerties, N.Y. Friends will be received Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Carol’s name to Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 12601, or online at https://www.hvhospice.org/foundation/donate/ OR send a donation to Carol’s online fundraising page for the Multiple Systems Atrophy (MSA) Coalition at https://www.crowdrise.com/in-memoryof-carol-werner-and-herfight-against-multiple-systems-atrophy-msa.
