Cahill challenger Uchitelle ends run

-

KINGSTON, N.Y. » A Kingston businessman who on Monday evening failed to win the backing of the Ulster County Democratic Committee, announced Wednesday he was dropping out of the race for the 103rd Assembly District seat.

Abe Uchitelle had challenged incumbent Assemblyman Kevin Cahill, D-Kingston, who won the backing of the committee for the Democratic nomination.

In a statement, Uchitelle said, “I believe that we must continue to strive towards change, and that we cannot afford to take our eyes off of the long-term goal of real reform in Albany. At this time, the best way that I can contribute to that long-term vision is to support our amazing Senate candidates, including the four inspiring women whose potential victories in the four Senate districts which overlap the 103rd Assembly District could finally mean a Democrat-controlled state Senate.”

Uchitelle is president of the Kingston-based digital marketing firm Dragon Search.

Cahill was first elected to the Assembly in 1992, lost his seat in 1994, was returned to office in 1998 and has been re-elected every two years since.

The 103rd Assembly District includes the Dutchess County towns of Red Hook and Rhinebeck, and the Ulster County city of Kingston and towns of Shandaken, Woodstock, Kingston, Ulster, Olive, Hurley, Rochester, Marbletown, Rosendale, Esopus, New Paltz, Gardiner and Plattekill.
