SAUGERTIES » Ethel A. Quick, 92, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2018.

She was born on March 31, 1926, in Staten Island, N.Y., to Florence and Freeman Stay. She moved to Quarryvill­e as a child and graduated from Saugerties High School in 1944.

Ethel was predecease­d by her husband of 59 years, Bertram Quick.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Konopka of Saugerties and Colleen (Patrick) Stevens of Guilderlan­d, N.Y. Also surviving are sisters, Marion (Everett) Vail and Alice Byrne. Ethel’s joy was her family, which included 13 grandchild­ren and 20 great-grandchild­ren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Ethel was predecease­d by her three sons, Michael, Robert and Bertram Quick; her brothers, John, Freeman, and James Stay, and Richard, Thomas and William Stamp; and her sister, Virginia Justi.

Ethel worked as the receptioni­st/assistant for Dr. Herman Ash for 45 years. In her retirement, she became involved in a number of volunteer activities with Friends of the Saugerties Public Library, the Ulster Literacy Associatio­n, teaching English as a second language, and Saugerties Pro Musica.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Snow Church, Saugerties, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ethel’s name to Doctors Without Borders or Saugerties Pro Musica.
