Record efforts help Kingston girls to finish second
Jaid Harrell and Samara Herzog set school records and Monica Reyes won two championships in the throws Thursday at the Section 9, Class A and B track and field meet.
Harrell cleared 5 feet, 6.25 inches to break an 11-year-old mark to win the Class A high jump. Herzog was a double winner, shaving a tenth of a second off her own record in the 100-meter hurdles with a 15.04. She tied the school mark with a victorious 12.41 in the 100 dash.
Reyes won the shot put and discus with 37-3.50 and 113-5 throws.
The Tiger girls placed second for a second consecutive year, scoring 108.5 points.
Kingston’s boys were eighth overall. Robert Becker was second in the 1600 (4:26.24). Jack McDonough won the hammer (139-8) and was runner-up in the shot (42-11.25) and discus (129-10).
Sarah Trainor won the 800 (2:14.02) to lead Roosevelt in Class A.
New Paltz’s boys and girls were both third in the Class B meet. Gil Sweeney cleared 12-6 and Keira Coulard-Smith did 9-6 to each take the pole vault, while Rosalind Bendell did 5-2 to win the high jump to lead the Huguenots.
Stephanie Mills and Romaine Bird were double winners for Wallkill. Mills won the long (16-1.25) and triple (35-9) jumps, as did Bird with a 21-1.75 (long) and 42-0.50 (triple) for the Panthers. Wallkill also had titlists in the hammer with Samantha Marino (64-1) and Ryan Diener (164-3).
Red Hook had a champion in the pentathlon in Claire Dickson (2,351 points).
The state qualifying meet is Thursday at Roosevelt and Friday at Middletown. CLASS A
