Roger W. Vogt, 94, of Hurley
HURLEY » Roger W. Vogt, 94, formerly of Hurley, N.Y., died Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Ten Broeck Commons in Lake Katrine. Born in Weehawken, N.J., Roger was a son of the late Floyd Sr. and Jessie (Compton) Vogt.
A veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, Roger was an combat infantryman with the rank of Private First Class assigned to Company 1 of the 291st Infantry, 75th Division. He was a awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. He was employed in insurance, health and accident, and securities sales by the Monarch Life Insurance Company in Springfield, Mass., for 39 years. After serving for several years on the Board of the Hurley Cemetery Association, he was superintendant for 18 years. Roger was a lifelong member of The Hurley Reformed Church, a member of the Kingston Lodge No. 10 Free and Accepted Masons, and a member of the 75th Division Association.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Louise (White) Vogt, with whom he would have celebrated 70 years of marriage this coming July; his children, Roger W. Vogt Jr. and his wife Ruth of Portland, Maine, Derrick B. Vogt and his wife Patricia of Baldwinsville, N.Y., Randall D. Vogt of Litchfield, Conn., and Kathleen Vogt Moisan and her husband Peter of Raleigh, N.C.; his grandchildren, Kyle, Adam, and Alison Vogt; and his greatgrandchildren, Keeler, Rowan, Maggie, and William Vogt. Sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive.
His sister, Alene Marie Vogt, and brothers, C. Kendall Vogt, Alan Richard Vogt, and Floyd H. Vogt Jr., all died previously.
Cremation and memorial arrangements are under the guidance of Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston (www.jvleahyfh. com). A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at the Hurley Reformed Church, with the Rev. Charles Stickley officiating. Inurnment will be private in the Vogt family plot in Hurley Cemetery.
