••• Samantha Kulcsar of Palenville graduated from Columbia-Greene Community College in Hudson on May 12, with an associate in science degree in human services.

While at the college, she achieved high honors, was a student senator and a member of the Alpha Sigma Lambda and Phi Theta Kappa honor societies. She was also a member of the Human Services Club and the Psychology Club, as well as being a commenceme­nt speaker.

She will continue her education at the University at Albany, with the goal of becoming a licensed clinical social worker in psychother­apy. She plans on a career in social work as a psychologi­st (psychother­apist).

She is the daughter of Ernest and Trinda Perry.

••• Three area residents attending the State University of New York at New Paltz — Moriah Keir of Kingston, Jade Mitchell of Port Ewen and Joel Friedman of Staatsburg — were inducted into the Phil Alpha Theta honor society.

Phi Alpha Theta is one of the oldest academic honor societies active on college campuses. The society is active in organizing regional and national conference­s, where many of its members have presented their undergradu­ate research. To be eligible

for membership, students must have completed at least 12 credit hours in history at SUNY New Paltz and have a minimum grade point average of 3.1 in their history classes and 3.0 overall.

••• Aja Levenson of Accord, a student at the State University of New York at Oneonta, was one of more than 50students at the college selected to receive a 2018 Academic Achievemen­t Award.

Levenson received the Human Ecology, Child and Family Studies award.

Each academic department or program selected one to three outstandin­g seniors to receive the award. To be considered for the award, a student must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.5in his or her major and must demonstrat­e exceptiona­l academic improvemen­t over four semesters. They must also demonstrat­e excellence in research; leadership and involvemen­t in department, campus and community activities; and/or participat­ion in academic and/or profession­al situation outside the college.

Eight area residents — Edward McKenna of West Hurley, Gillian Donohue of Ellenville, Cassidy Martinez of Napanoch, Sage Byron of Chichester, Timothy Cino, Cole Felicello and Emily Sawitsky, all of Pine Bush; and Scott Larsen of Catskill — were named to the dean’s list at Morrisvill­e State College for the fall semester.

Students earn dean’s list status by achieving a grade point average from 3.0 to 3.99.

McKenna is majoring in criminal justice. Donohue is majoring in health-related studies. Martinez and Byron are both majoring in animal science — equine science and management. Cino, Sawitsky and Larsen are all majoring in automotive technology. Felicello is majoring in diesel equipment technology.

Students earn dean’s list status by achieving a grade point average of 3.6 or higher.
