14U Rebels capture title

The Mid-Hudson Rebels Red 14U took first place in the Kristi Babcock Memorial Tournament by blanking the Yorktown Huskers 5-0 in a rain-shortened championsh­ip contest.

Barrett Holsapple got the Rebels on the board in the first with a two-run home run scoring McKenna Fairley who reached on a walk, while Emma Haller’s tworun double in the second drove in Abigail Schaffer and winning pitcher Trista Lukaszewsk­i.

In the semis, Cady Sickler struck out a career-high 10 while allowing two hits and five walks in a 4-0 win over the Brooklyn Cyclones.

The Rebels capitalize­d on three consecutiv­e walks and an RBI single by Rachel Hoyt to go up 3-0. Hoyt would later reach via an error in the fifth and score on Haller’s RBI single.

Mid-Hudson opened pool play by defeating the Cyclones 17-0.

Ava DelSalto got the win, striking out two, while allowing three walks and hitting one batter in three innings. Lukaszewsk­i belted a three-run homer and knocked in another RBI. DelSalto hit two singles, drove in three runs and had two runs scored. Holsapple hit a single, had two RBi and had two runs scored in a contest where 8-9 rebels scored two runs

In game two Haller double and had three RBI and Holspapple doubled and three runs scored as the Rebels downed the Huskers 11-3.

Lukazewski got the win fanning five while allowing three hits, three walks and three earned runs in five innings.

Schaffer contribute­d an RBI and a run score and Audrey Werba added two RBI to lead Mid-Hudson.
