Parades, observance­s scheduled for today

Memorial Day, a national holiday that pays tribute to the nation’s war dead, is today.

Here’s a rundown of announced parades and other observance­s in the area today:

• Catskill: A parade will step off at 11 a.m. , from Water Street in the village and proceed down Main Street to the Greene County Courthouse for a service on the front steps of the building.

• Esopus: The American Legion parade will step off at 10 a.m. at the Dollar General store on U.S. Route 9W and proceed south to Riverview Cemetery. The lineup starts at 9:30a.m. A ceremony will take place at the cemetery before the parade proceeds back past a reviewing stand at the Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union on U.S. Route 9W. The parade will end at the Port Ewen Firehouse on U.S. Route 9W. If it rains, there will only be a ceremony at the Esopus Town Hall community room.

• Hurley: The annual parade organized by John F. Jordan Memorial Post No. 5086 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will step off 10a.m. from St. Joseph’s Mission and march along Zandhoek Road and Main Street to Town Hall, where a ceremony will take place and refreshmen­ts will be served. All veterans are invited to march.

• Hyde Park: Parade from Roosevelt Theater, U.S. Route 9, to Town Hall ceremony, parade beginning 10 a.m. Sponsored by town of Hyde Park and American Legion Hyde Park Post No. 1303.

• Hyde Park: Rose Garden Memorial Service, at Franklin Delano Roosevelt Presidenti­al Library, 1:30 p.m.

• Kingston: A ceremony will be take place at 1 p.m. in front of City Hall, 420 Broadway, followed by a parade starting at 1:45 p.m. The parade will start at Broadway and Andrew Street, proceed up Broadway and through Uptown and end at Dietz Stadium. Line up for the parade starts at noon.

• Lloyd: A parade will step off at 9 a.m. at the corner of Phillips Avenue and New Paltz Road. It will proceed along New Paltz Road down through Main Street and then head around to Vineyard Avenue, concluding at Town Square, where a ceremony will be held.

• Marbletown: A parade will step off at 10 a.m. at Marbletown Elemen--

tary School and end at the Marbletown Community Center on U.S. Route 209, where American Legion Post No. 1512 will conduct a memorial service, followed by refreshmen­ts.

• Marlboroug­h: American Legion Viebey-Sutton Post No. 124 will honor memorials this morning in Marlboro and Milton with a prayer, gun salute and taps starting with the memorial at the Legion Hall on 50 Western Ave. in Marlboro at 9 a.m., then the flagpole in Marlboro at 9:10 a.m., Billesimo Real Estate at 9:20 a.m., Amodeo Sunoco at 9:30 a.m., Marlboro Middle School at 9:40 a.m., Milton Library

at 9:50 a.m. and Milton True Value Hardware at 10 a.m.

• New Paltz: Parade and ceremony beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, with the parade following the traditiona­l route and services to be held at the Veterans Monument at the New Paltz Fire Station. Civic and fraternal organizati­ons are invited to participat­e. Sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8645.

• Olive: Parade and ceremony beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the West Shokan Post Office, Route 28A. The parade will proceed to Town Hall on Watson Hollow Road and the pavilion in Davis Park. Music will be provided by the Onteora High School marching band. In the event of rain, a ceremony will take place at the pavilion. Sponsored by American Legion

• Pine Plains: Parade beginning at 10:30a.m., starting at the Pine Plains Firehouse and stops at the Town Clock Memorial at South Main Street for services. Parade will proceed later to Evergreen Cemetery for additional ceremony. Sponsored by American Legion Post No. 426 and Pine Plains VFW Post No. 5519. • Rhinebeck: Parade and ceremony, 9:30 a.m. lineup at fairground­s for 10:30 a.m. parade; parade proceeds Mulberry Street to East Market Street to Doughboy statue for ceremony, then to Rhinebeck Cemetery, U.S. Route 9 South, and Legion Park. • Rosendale: Memorial Day parade sets up at 9a.m. at the Tillson Firehouse on Springtown Road with a 10a.m. step off. The parade will proceed to the Rosendale Veterans Monument.

• Saugerties: Lamouree-Hackett American Legion Post No. 72, 30John St., will host a Memorial Day service at 6p.m. Wednesday.

• Shandaken: Memorial Day parade at 11 a.m. , Main Street, Phoenicia. Ceremony to follow at the eagle statue on state Route 28.

• Shawangunk: Memorial Day parade at 11 a.m. at the John G. Borden Middle School on state Route 208(109Bona Ventura Ave.), followed immediatel­y by a memorial service at Library Park.

• Tannersvil­le: A ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the Hunter Elementary School on state Route 23A.

• Tivoli: Ceremony at Southside Red Church Cemetery, state Route 9G, at 10 a.m. Sponsored by American Legion Harris Smith Post No. 524. For more informatio­n, call Thomas Mabie at (845) 758-1330.

• Town of Rochester: A ceremony will be take place at noon at Veterans Park, 50 Scenic Road, followed by a parade stepping off at 1 p.m.

• Town of Ulster: Ulster Hose Company No. 5 will hold a memorial service at 5p.m. in the pavilion at company headquarte­rs, 830 Ulster Ave.

• Woodstock: Parade assembling at 11 a.m. at Woodstock Playhouse parking lot, with the parade stepping off at noon and proceeding up Mill Hill Road to Rock City Road, stopping briefly at Woodstock Cemetery and then resuming to Tinker Street and on to Neher Street.
