Mets place Syndergaard on 10-day DL
The New York Mets have placed right-hander Noah Syndergaard on the 10-day disabled list with a sore right index finger.
The move Tuesday is retroactive to May 26, and he likely will miss one start because of the strained ligament.
Syndergaard is 4-1 with a 3.06 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 64 2/3 innings as one of the Mets’ aces, along with Jacob deGrom. Syndergaard last pitched Friday night in a loss at Atlanta.
The Mets now have 11 players on the DL, including such regulars as outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, third baseman Todd Frazier, and catcher Travis d’Arnaud.
Syracuse adds OL Koda Martin
Syracuse has added offensive lineman Koda Martin to the roster.
Coach Dino Babers said Tuesday that Martin is enrolled and eligible to play immediately as a graduate transfer from Texas A&M.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pound Martin appeared in 13 games for the Aggies last season, starting all but two at left tackle for an offense that averaged nearly 390 yards.
Martin is Babers’ son-in-law, and Martin’s father, Kirk Martin, is in his first season as the Orange quarterbacks coach.
Astrodome designated historic landmark
The Houston Astrodome, which became known as the Eighth Wonder of the World as the world’s first domed stadium, is getting the highest honor Texas can give a historic structure.
A marker designating the Astrodome as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark is being unveiled at ceremonies Tuesday outside the Houston icon.
The stadium opened April 9, 1965, for an exhibition baseball game between the Houston Astros and New York Yankees. For more than three decades, it hosted countless athletics competitions, concerts and other events before falling victim to old age and disrepair.
