TILLSON » Ethel (Joy) Quick, 82, daughter of the late Ethel Miller and Franklin Smith, died May 29, 2018, after a long illness with kidney disease, which she fought until the very end. She was born April 11, 1936 in Russell Springs, Kan.

Joy met her first love Robert Dale Smith in Kankakee, Ill. Soon after they moved to Kerhonkson, N.Y., where they resided for many years. Joy was employed by Dr. Alfred Feldshuh in Kerhonkson, Smitty’s Body Shop in New Paltz and in her later years, she was employed by the Town of Rosendale. Joy lost her first love unexpected­ly on Nov. 6, 1969. She then met Austin Gray Quick and they were married on Feb. 6, 1971. Joy lived a wonderful life bringing up four children, putting her family above all. She loved to cook for family gatherings, especially on holidays. She was a strong woman whom many asked for advice. She has an open-door invitation to all friends, was an avid gardener, loved animals and enjoyed reading a good novel with a cup of coffee. After retirement she resided in Tillson with her husband Austin and family.

She was predecease­d by her first husband, Dale in 1969; her second husband, Austin Gray Quick on May 3, 2018; her son, Austin (Chip) Quick, Jr., in 1983. She was also predecease­d by her brothers, James, Edwin, and Joe. She is survived by her daughters, Vicki Briggs, Dawn Ankru (Thomas), Debra Nace (David Jabs); and her grandchild­ren, Kelly, Cody, and Cortny. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and her little dog companion, Sugar.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 AM Friday June 1, 2018 at Pine Bush Cemetery Kerhonkson. Rev Arlene Dawber will officiate. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.

Arrangemen­ts are by the George J. Moylan Funeral Home Inc., Route 32, Rosendale.
