Minivan, school bus collide; 2 injured
ULSTER PARK, N.Y. » A school bus and a minivan collided at about 8:30 a.m. Monday on U.S. Route 9W near Catherines Lane in this town of Esopus hamlet, injuring both drivers.
According to the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, a minivan belonging to the Devereaux Foundation in Red Hook and driven by James Garnett, 39, of Hyde Park, was northbound on Route 9W when it crossed into the southbound lane and struck a southbound New Paltz Central School District bus driven by Tersa Faso, 40, of Kerhonkson.
There were two people in the minivan, according to Ulster County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Vincent Altieri.
The minivan struck the bus on the driver’s side at the front of the vehicle, Altieri said. The bus had just let off students at Ulster BOCES, about a mile north of the crash scene, he said.
The minivan sustained significant damage. The damage to the bus appeared relatively minor.
Altieri said the Garnett suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
Faso was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, and a passenger in the minivan was uninjured, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The name of the passenger was not released.
No tickets had been issued as of late Monday afternoon.
