NEW PALTZ » It is with great sadness that we share that our beloved husband, father, grandfathe­r, and friend, Alfred “Russ” Chapman, 63, of New Paltz, passed away after a very brief illness on Sunday morning, June 10, 2018, at home with his beloved wife and loving family. We will remember him for his generosity, commitment to family, and the individual love and attention he gave each person in his life. His warm smile will always be in our hearts.

Russ was born Aug. 20, 1954, in Phoenix, Ariz., and was the son of the late Alfred John Chapman and Harriet Pearcey.

Russ was the owner and operator of Hudson Valley Water Resources, Inc., and was previously employed by B&L Trucking, J&R Schugel Trucking, and Viking Enterprise­s. Early employment included snow plowing, carnival, tree doctor, piano mover, excavator, and fencing installer.

Alfred is survived by his beloved bride, Anne Chapman, and their children, Jessica Matteson and her husband, Matthew, of Fairfield, Conn., Trinity Chapman of Wallkill, N.Y., Kyle Chapman and his husband, Stephen Balantzian, of New Paltz, N.Y., Craig Chapman and his wife, Christine, of Bloomingto­n, N.Y., Byron Chapman of New Paltz, N.Y., Dennis Mood and his wife, Keri, of High Falls, N.Y., Anne Mood of New Paltz, N.Y., Patricia Mood of Red Hook, N.Y., and Steven Mood and his wife, Victoria, of China; one sister, Gladys Kendall and her husband, George, of Maryland; one brother, David Pearcey of Arizona; 14 grandchild­ren, Rebecca Mood, Madeleine Mood, Hunter Chapman, Mallory Mood, Benjamin Fromm, Jacob Laboy, Lilyana Chapman, Liabelle Chapman, Jaden Matteson, Olivia Mood, Ian Matteson, Amelia Chapman, Alex Balantzian, and Lucas Chapman; his adopted mother, Karen Mell; two adopted sisters, Tina and Julie; two sisters-in-law, Jane Bloodgood Abrams and her husband, Paul, and Josephine Bloodgood; and his brothers-in-law, Hank Otero, Clarence Bloodgood and his wife, Phyllis, and Michael Bloodgood and his wife, Marie, Bruce Rhinehart, and Geddis Kerr; and many more dearest nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends across the USA.

He was predecease­d by his grandfathe­r, James Hicks, and three sisters, Winnie Rhinehart, Elizabeth Kerr, and Marjorie Schules.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Copeland Funeral Home, 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, N.Y., 12561. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 12 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 34 South Chestnut Street, New Paltz, N.Y., followed by burial at Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston, N.Y.
