Pourre becomes 1st female skipper to win Atlantic Cup
Catherine Pourre of France became the first female skipper to win the Atlantic Cup when Earendil claimed a narrow victory following the final stage on Sunday.
Earendil beat Boston-based Toothface II, 77-76. Pourre and coskipper Pietro Luciani of Italy dominated the two offshore legs and held on to a narrow advantage as Toothface II closed the gap with exceptional racing in the inshore series. The Portland-based Amhas, crewed by Micah Davis and Rob Windsor, placed third after a consistent performance in the two-week event.
“We could have been better on the inshore series,” Pourre said. “Toothface was really great on the inshore series, and so was Dragon and Amhas and the others . ... I am happy to be the winner of course.”
Toothface II, skippered by Mike Dreese and Tristan Mouligne, made a late charge during the inshore series to secure second place and just missed out on an extraordinary comeback victory.
Park wins ShopRite LPGA for first LPGA Tour title
Annie Park won the ShopRite LPGA Classic for her first LPGA Tour victory, closing with an 8-under 63 on Sunday for a one-stroke victory over Sakura Yokomine.
The 23-year-old Park, from Levittown, New York, had an eagle and six birdies on a cloudy day over the Bay Course at Stockton Seaview to complete 54 holes at 16-under 197, a stroke off the tournament record.
Yokomine, the winner of 23 events on the Japan LPGA Tour, flirted with a 59 but parred the par-5 18th for a 61 to tie the course record.
New Jersey native Marina Alex was third at 14 under after a 64. She made a hole-in-one at the par-3 17th. Sei Young Kim, who broke the course record Sunday morning when she finished her second round with back-to-back birdies for a 61, had a 70 to finish fourth at 13 under.
Supreme Court won’t get involved in dispute
The Supreme Court is leaving in place a court decision dismissing a lawsuit filed against the Chicago Cubs by the owners of rooftop clubs adjacent to Wrigley Field.
Skybox on Sheffield and Lakeview Baseball Club sued the Cubs in 2015, arguing in part that a right-field video board the team was adding would block their views of the ballpark and violate terms of a 2004 revenue-sharing agreement.
A federal judge dismissed the case. Judge Virginia Kendall said the board was allowed because the agreement allowed “any expansion of Wrigley Field approved by governmental authorities.”
A three-judge panel of the 7th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in September upheld the decision to dismiss the case. The Supreme Court declined Monday to hear the case, leaving the lower court decisions in place.
