Police conclude man’s injuries on Fair St. were result of assault

A city man found injured near the Cake Box Bakery and Cafe on Fair Street was the victim of an assault, and city police are hoping to find the perpetrator and a motive, Detective Sgt. Brian Robertson said Tuesday.

About 11:20 p.m. May 28, Steven Augustine of Kingston was taken to an area hospital by police after an assault near the bakery at 8 Fair St., police have said.

Robertson said Augustine remains hospitalized, but he was not aware of his condition on Tuesday.

In Facebook posts immediately after the assault, Augustine’s friends and family said he was the victim of a “brutal beating.”

Augustine could have been robbed, Robertson said.
