Judith Ann Moses, 86, of Shokan, N.Y., passed away on June 1, 2018.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 13, 1932, to Solveig Andersen and Sigvald Andersen, she earned a chemistry degree from Westminster College. She met Alfred Moses at the University of Florida and they married in 1955, designing and building their own house.

She worked on antibiotic treatments at Pfizer in New York and Florida, crafted a line of jewelry, and taught in the Onteora School System.

In 1961, Judy was struck with polio. Undaunted, she learned to walk with crutches and drive a wheelchair around the house like a bullet train. She raised two children and won a community service award, sewed clothes and knitted sweaters. She matched her skills to Al’s: when he built a couch, she upholstered it. When he built a tent, she sewed the canvas cover and made the sleeping bags. When he suggested driving the family across 48 states, she wrote to the states for maps and navigated camping trips of over 10,000 miles each. She never complained when others went hiking and she was left to entertain herself in a visitor center. She never complained when others could walk and run and she was confined. She figured out how to do the things she wanted to do.

She taught us to pitch in, to power through, to see God in others, to laugh at the absurd and cry at the poignant, to cherish the scenery and fear not the formidable. She lives in every breath we pitch and power and see, laugh, cry, cherish.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Alfred Moses, of Shokan, N.Y.; son, Tim of Hainesport, N.J and grandsons Griffin and Tucker; daughter, Joy Moses-Hall and husband Richard of Greenville, N.C, and granddaughters Rachel (Stephen), Shannon, and Olivia; sister, Lucille Pescevich and husband Rich of Edenton, N.C.; cousin, Lauranne Turgen and husband, Barry, of Sayville, N.Y.; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Celebration of life will be June 16, 2018 in New Jersey.
