Senate House site celebrates Independence Day
WHAT: Independence Day celebration WHEN: June 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. WHERE: Senate House State Historic Site, 296 Fair St., Kingston DETAILS: The Senate House State Historic Site will mark Independence Day early with a patriotic Ceremony with dramatic readings and stirring songs. In addition, Ben Franklin will be on hand with some science experiments and hands-on activities sponsored by the Palisades Park Conservancy. Storyteller and musician Rich Bala will be performing songs from the Revolutionary War era. Try your hand at an 18th century game or toy. Guided tours of the Senate House will be provided by costumed interpreters at the usual rate of $4 for adults and $3 for senior citizens. Children 12 and under are free. Workshops on historic tax credits slated
WHAT: Historic tax credit workshops WHEN: June 28, with commercial workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. and homeowner workshop from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. WHERE: Washington Headquarter’s State Historic Site, 84 Liberty St., Newburgh DETAILS: Does your community have vacant or under-utilized historic buildings? Are you the homeowner of an historic property in need of repairs? New York state’s Historic Tax Credits can help people provide safer and healthier homes for their families and protect business investments for generations to come. In addition, the tax credit is an economic development too, providing an incentive to invest in older structures. There is no fee to attend either workshop, but registration is required.
