SAUGERTIES, N.Y. » Village officials have approved an $85,998.50 contract with New Paltz-based Casa Builders Inc. to repair a section of sewer line on Washington Avenue.

The project was discussed during a Village Board meeting Monday, with officials saying there was only one bid submitted.

“It’s a relatively small job compared to some of the jobs we’ve had done,” Mayor Bill Murphy said. “This is somebody relatively new to this industry,” he said. “After meeting with them (the village engineer) came back to me and said he felt comfortable with them.”

Officials estimated that project involves replacing about 100 feet of sewer line.

“There’s four manholes and it’s collapsing,” Trustee Donald Hackett said. “It’s more than just the manholes. There’s the sewer lines there.

“It comes in from three different directions, so, basically, we’ve got to replace that, then line it, and then there’s like a little bit of collapse ... on another person’s property. It’s old clay pipe, so they want to go down and fix that.”

The work will be done near the intersection with Robinson Street, with the approving resolution noting that the project must be completed before September.

“Time is of the essence as this project must be completed while school is out of session,” officials wrote.
