ITHACA » Barbara Zimet, 93, of Ithaca, formerly of Woodstock, died Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca. Born in Culver, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Alma McBride Benedict.

A graduate of the Indiana University School of Music, she started her career as a band director in Tippecanoe, Ind. She graduated with a degree in piano and double bass and married Leonard Zimet in 1950. She was a lifelong teacher and learner with a piano studio in Woodstock for over 50 years. She was a consultant and clinician for Robert Pace and the National Piano Federation. In Ithaca, she was the director of the “Mad Hatter” Ensemble at Longview.

Barbara is survived by her children, David Zimet and his wife Melanie of Lansing, Beth Mark and her husband David of Narberth, Pa., and Joshua Zimet of Baltimore, Md.; six grandchild­ren, Rachel, Sarah, Debra, Ben, Sam, and Hannah. She also had the joy of four great-grandchild­ren.

Barbara was predecease­d by her husband Leonard who passed in 2014.

A Funeral Service was conducted on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Congregati­on Emanuel at 10 a.m. with Rabbi Yael Romer, officiatin­g.

Interment followed in Montrepose Cemetery.
