Tanghetto plays at Bearsville Theater
New wave electro-tango dance band from Argentina will perform Saturday.
Tanghetto, a new wave electro-tango dance band from Buenos Aires, Argentina, will perform Saturday, July 7, at Bearsville Theater, 291 Tinker St., Woodstock.
There will be a champagne meet and greet at 6 p.m., with the concert running from 8 to 11 p.m.
The evening will include the Tanghetto concert with social dancing, guest vocalist Hector Pablo Pereyra, a dance performance by Maia Martinez and David Salvatierra, and an absolute tango beginners class with Ilene Marder, founder of Woodstock Tango.
Tanghetto is renowned as one of the original “nuevo” tango bands whose music started a worldwide “nuevo” dance community. The team of virtuoso Argentine musicians, playing a unique mix of “club meets milonga” live electro-tango music, have recorded more than 13 albums with numerous awards and tours to more than 20 countries. They are on tour in the New York area for only a short period. There are just four East Coast Tanghetto dates, including a concert at New York City’s Lincoln Center three days before the Bearsville concert. The theater will be transformed into a Buenos Aires night club for dancing and with seating.
The program will be as follows:
• 6 to 7:15 p.m., special champagne meet and greet.
• 7 p.m., Absolute beginners tango lesson.
• 8 to 11 p.m., Tanghetto concert and live music milonga (Argentine tango dance party), guest vocalist Hector Pablo Pereyra, and guest performers Maia Martinez and David Salvatierra. DJ La Rubia Del Norte will be spinning classic tango between live sets.
• 11 p.m. to 1 a.m., Late night milonga with DJ La Rubia De Norte.
A package reservation is $70. It includes a meet and greet with Tanghetto, with champagne and refreshments in the Green Room, and hi-top table seating in the theater for the concert/dance. Admission for the beginners class, concert and milonga is $35. Milonga only from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. is $15. There is no charge for milonga with earlier admission.
