Mets 3B Frazier placed on DL for 2nd time this season

Mets third baseman Todd Frazier has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained muscle in his left rib cage.

It’s the second DL stint for Frazier during his first season with the struggling Mets. The 32-yearold slugger had never been on the disabled list before 2018.

Frazier says Monday he felt some discomfort his first time up Sunday against Tampa Bay and it got progressively worse as the game went on. He had an MRI and received a cortisone shot, but it’s unclear how long he will be out.

A two-time All-Star, Frazier signed a $17 million, two-year contract with New York as a free agent in February. He is batting .217 with 10 homers, 32 RBIs and a .685 OPS in 61 games. He was sidelined from May 8 to June 1 with a strained left hamstring.

Fans say goodbye to Michigan harness racing track

Thousands of harness racing fans flocked to a southern Michigan track to bid farewell before the 70-year-old raceway is demolished.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports that Jackson Harness Raceway celebrated its final hurrah Sunday by hosting a dozen horse races. The track has been closed for 10 years but reopened this weekend so community members could say goodbye ahead of the scheduled demolition.

Co-organizer Mike Way says up to 7,000 people attended the event honoring the track’s history. Way says he saw many tears from people with a passion for the sport.

Brenda Friend worked as a teller at the raceway. She fulfilled her dream of taking a lap around the track in a cart Sunday.

Friend says harness racing is a family event. She says kids growing up now don’t know what they’re missing.

Sabres sign top pick Rasmus Dahlin to entry-level deal

The Buffalo Sabres have signed top draft pick Rasmus Dahlin to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Buffalo selected the 18-yearold defenseman from Sweden with the first pick in last month’s draft.

The signing was announced by the team Monday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The maximum value of an entry-level contract for a No. 1 pick is $11.325 million over three years.

Dahlin is expected to make an immediate jump to the NHL after playing two seasons with Frolunda in the Swedish Hockey League.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Dahlin’s skating and playmaking abilities have drawn comparisons to elite Swedish defensemen such as Ottawa Senators captain Erik Karlsson and former Detroit Red Wings star Nicklas Lidstrom.
