ELIZAVILLE » Gerard William Sweeney, 93, of Elizaville, N.Y., and a former resident of Wantagh and Elmhurst, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at the Livingston Hills Nursing Center in Livingston, N.Y.

Born on Sept. 24, 1924, in Elmhurst, N.Y., he was the son of the late Eugene Michael and Regina (Blank) Sweeney. Gerard married Arlene Veronica Bradley on Oct. 2, 1948, at St. Bartholome­w’s Church in Elmhurst, N.Y. Arlene survives at home in Elizaville.

For 45 years, he worked as a field service engineer with Sperry Gyroscope Corp./UNISYS in Lake Success, N.Y. After he retired in the home he built, he enjoyed travel, golf, and his family.

In addition to his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Gerard is survived by his children, Kathleen Regina (Alfred) Molinari of Colorado Springs, Colo., Christine Ann (Nickolas) Spagnolo of Mineola, N.Y., Brian James (Theresa) Sweeney of Wantagh, N.Y., Dennis Paul (Tanya) Sweeney of San Diego, Calif., and Michael Patrick (Anne) Sweeney of Levittown, N.Y.; a loving brother, Raymond Eugene (Bobbi) Sweeney of Elizaville, N.Y.; 15 grandchild­ren; four greatgrand­children; and numerous extended family and friends.

Two sons, Eugene Michael Sweeney and Gerard Edward Sweeney, predecease­d him.

Friends may call at Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Friday, July 13, 2018, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018, at St. Christophe­r’s Church, Red Hook, N.Y. Burial will be at St. Sylvia’s Cemetery, Tivoli.
