Roger P. Menard, 81, of Olivebridge, the man with the fedora and fly rod, always said, “Take what the day gives you,” and on July 9, 2018, Rog did just that and found new waters to explore.

He will be forever remembered by his wife and best friend, Lisa; his four children, Lisa, Deborah, Jennifer, and Paul; his grandchildren, Jason and Nicholas; his former spouse, Muriel; his sister, Carol; and many nieces and nephews.

Roger was predeceased by his brother, Ken.

Born on Dec. 9, 1936, in Brooklyn, N.Y., Roger graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, worked as a sales rep for the Ronzoni Company, and spent most of his adult life as a Catskill resident, fly fishing his beloved rivers. His lifelong romance with the woods and waters is lovingly documented in his book, “My Side of the River.” (Black Dome Press, 2002)

Roger’s military service in the U.S. Navy will be honored by American Legion Post 1219 on Friday, July 27, 2018, at 2 p.m. at New Paltz Rural Cemetery (Ulster County Veterans’ Section), 81 Plains Road, New Paltz, N.Y. The service will be presided over by the Rev. Jennifer Bendelius, and all are welcome.

Arrangements are by George J. Moylan Funeral Home Inc., Rosendale. (www.GJMoylanFuneralHome.com)

In lieu of flowers, and to help defray the cost of Roger’s medical expenses, donations can be made to Lisa Menard, 202 Mill Road, Olivebridge, N.Y. 12461.
