SAUGERTIES » Salvatore A. “Sal” Misasi Sr., 83, of Barclay Lane died Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at Kingston Hospital.

Born July 21, 1934, in Glasco, he was the son of the late Antonio and Mary Verzillo Misasi.

A lifetime area resident he was a graduate of Saugerties High School Class of 1954. During his high school career, he lettered in varsity baseball, basketball, and football. After his graduation, he was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers as a pitcher. He later had a tryout with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Upon his return to Saugerties, he was hired by IBM in Kingston, where he was employed for over 35 years, retiring in 1982. Active in the Saugerties sports scene, he played for the Saugerties Whiz Kids, the Glasco AC Softball team, and bowled at Ferraro’s Bowling Alley in Kingston.

He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Woodstock Country Club for many years. He was instrument­al in the organizati­on of the Ulster County Senior Tournament and was a two-time Senior County Champion. He also organized the Lions Club’s annual golf tournament.

Active in the Saugerties community, he was a member of the Lions Club, a member of the Glasco Fire Co., serving as its secretary/treasurer, and was a parishione­r of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and served as an usher. In 1985, he was elected into the Saugerties Sports Hall of Fame and later inducted into the Kingston Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his wife, the former Rita Cafaldo, with whom he recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversar­y; son, Sal Misasi Jr., (Kelly); daughters, Linda Misasi (Kathy Hall) and Sharon Misasi (Sandy DeCicco); a sister, Caroline “Snooks” Sinnott; six grandchild­ren, Kayla, Mary, Nancy, Lissa, Sal, and Casey; two great-grandchild­ren, Camden and Paxton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predecease­d by two brothers, Louis and Anthony Misasi.

His funeral procession will form at 12:15 p.m. Saturday at Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette streets. Thence to St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, where at 1 p.m., a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
