Reher Center opens new gallery

WHAT: Opening of The Gallery at The Reher Center for Immigrant Culture and History

WHEN: Public Hours are Saturdays July 21 and 28 from 2 to 6 p.m. An open house takes place Saturday, Aug. 4, from 2 to 8 p.m.

WHERE: The Reher Center for Immigrant Culture and History, 99-101 Broadway, Kingston. The gallery entrance is through the Spring Street courtyard.

DETAILS: The Reher Center for Immigrant Culture’s gallery “is the only space in Kingston devoted to the history of the Rondout neighborho­od and the immigrant stories of the Hudson Valley, past and present,” according to the Center. The center’s says its mission is “to preserve and present stories with universal appeal about immigratio­n, community, work, and bread. It uses its historic bakery building in Kingston’s Rondout neighborho­od to forge emotional connection­s among all people through tours and programs.” On view is the permanent exhibit, “Rondout Revisited,“which documents the arc of an American river port and its diverse community over 150 years by focusing on changes to Broadway, Rondout’s central commercial strip. Also on view through Aug. 4 is the inaugural temporary exhibit, “The Story Continues: Portraits of Today’s Immigrant Businesses.” The show features the portraits and stories of a diverse group of contempora­ry immigrant business owners and artists who live and work in the Rondout.
