Ulster County tourney to tee off
The 60th annual Ulster County Women’s Golf Association championship tournament begins Friday with the first round of the event being held at the Lazy Swan Golf and Country Club.
Amber Pennington, who turns 16 in mid-August, will be gunning for a third consecutive title. She became the youngest player to capture the title in 2016 when she won by nine strokes. A 1-under 69 at Lazy Swan in the second round last year propelled her to a 14-stroke triumph.
Pennington would become the first to win the championship three years in a row since Ingrid Narken’s four-year run from 2005-08.
The 54-hole Championship Flight, with its field of 12 players, starts 9 a.m. Friday with Pennington playing with past champions Kim Hines and Ellen Densen.
The 36-hole First and Second flights commence Saturday along with the second round of the Championship at New Paltz Golf Course at 8:30. The tourna-
ment wraps up Sunday at Woodstock Golf Club.
