The International Olympic Committee says it will ask sports organizations to “carefully consider” allocating events for Serbia or Kosovo to host.

The Olympic body’s executive board took the position Thursday after a Kosovo national karate team was blocked from entering Serbia which was hosting the European Championship in May.

Serbia does not recognize the independence of Kosovo, which the former province declared in 2008.

IOC spokesman Mark Adams says international sports governing bodies “need to be aware” that a championship in either country “could run into problems.”

»The Detroit Pistons have hired Tim Grgurich and Micah Nori as assistant coaches.

Grgurich most recently was an assistant for Milwaukee, but he’s spent the last 27 years with NBA teams such as Seattle, Portland, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Denver and Dallas. New Pistons coach Dwane Casey overlapped with Grgurich when both were with Seattle from 1994-98.

Grgurich was also the lead assistant for Jerry Tarkanian at UNLV when it won the NCAA title in 1990.

Nori spent the last three seasons as an assistant with Denver. Prior to that, he spent two seasons as an assistant with Sacramento. He also was an assistant under Casey for a couple seasons in Toronto.

The team announced the moves Thursday.

Alexis Sanchez has resolved his visa issues and can travel to the United States to join up with the Manchester United squad for its preseason tour.

The Chile forward had to stay in Manchester as the rest of the squad headed across the Atlantic last weekend, because of what the club said was a “personal administrative issue.” That turned out to be a problem with his visa, with Sanchez having accepted a 16-month suspended prison sentence in Spain this year over a tax issue.

Sanchez posted a picture of himself on Instagram on Thursday, accompanied by the caption: “The last training in Manchester, soon” followed by a picture of the U.S. flag.

United later said Sanchez would be flying to the United States.
