Comedian Iglesias coming to UPAC
Author, humorist Sedaris to be at Bardavon
Comedian Gabriel Iglesias, known to fans as “Fluffy,” will perform at the Ulster Performing Arts Center, 601 Broadway, at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, the Bardavon announced Monday.
Also, humorist and author David Sedaris will appear at the Bardavon, 35 Market St., Poughkeepsie, for a reading and signing at 8 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2019.
Iglesias is the youngest of six children raised by a single mother in California. It was during his childhood that he developed a strong sense of humor to deal with the obstacles he faced. In 1997, he set out to hone his comedic skills and performed stand-up anywhere he could find an audience.
Iglesias’ stand-up comedy is a mixture of storytelling, parodies, characters and sound effects that bring his personal experiences to life. His unique and animated comedy style has made him popular among fans of all ages.
At the end of 2016, Iglesias released his sixth onehour comedy special, “I’m Sorry For What I Said When I Was Hungry,” on Netflix. He filmed the special at the Allstate Arena in Chicago to two sold-out audiences totaling 20,000 fans.
His feature film credits include co-starring roles in “A Haunted House 2,” and his voice can be heard in numerous animated films, including “Norm of the North,” “The Book of Life,” “The Nut Job” and Disney’s “Planes.” Iglesias also starred in the theatrical stand-up concert comedy film “The Fluffy Movie.”
Tickets for Iglesias’ performance are $54, $74 and $89, or $99 for Gold Circle seating. Bardavon/UPAC members receive a $5 discount on all tickets.
In its review of David Sedaris’ new book, “Calypso,” The Washington Post said, “After 25 years and nine essay collections, after publishing 500 pages of his own diary, the most shocking thing David Sedaris can do is reveal that he’s been holding things back.”
Following its publication in May, “Calypso” immediately shot to the top of The New York Times’ bestseller list, and now Sedaris returns to the Bardavon for his annual reading and signing. Slashing through cultural euphemisms and political correctness, he will bring twists of humor and intelligence as he shares published stories and works in progress.
All tickets are $49. Members receive a $5 discount.
Tickets for both shows will be available exclusively to Bardavon/UPAC members on Wednesday and Thursday, July 25 and 26, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. They will go on sale to the general public starting at 11 a.m. Friday, July 27.
